Grid Connection Bottleneck: Do We Need a Change of Strategy?

The expansion of renewable energies in Germany is currently being hampered less by a lack of power lines than by insufficient grid connection capacity. Many substations are overloaded, meaning that new wind, solar, and storage projects often fail to obtain grid connections. At the same time, existing grid connection points are frequently not being used optimally: Since wind and solar plants often feed electricity into the grid at different times, they could be operated together on a single connection to utilize the available capacity much more effectively. The combined use of hybrid systems and storage technologies would allow for efficient management of grid load without the need to create new connections. "Charged – The Battery Podcast on the Energy Transition" speaks with Jerome Fischer from Omexom about the hurdles to grid connections and solutions for the future.
