The Future of Swedish District Heating: Deregulation, Innovation, and Sustainability

Speaker: Paul Westin, Senior Business Developer, The Swedish Energy Agency

The Swedish policy framework promotes deregulation, including aspects like ownership, parallel competition, pricing, and international sourcing (SINFRA), alongside a CO2 tax that encourages innovation. The supply mix is now close to CO2-zero, with only plastic residuals remaining in waste. Large heat pumps have made a significant contribution to this transformation over the past 40 years, highlighting examples such as Stockholm Exergi and Norrenergi.
