Carbon Management in Europe: Key Strategy or Interim Solution for the Energy Transition?
Carbon Capture & Storage (CCS)
Carbon Capture & Utilization (CCU)
While the expansion of renewable energies, energy efficiency measures, and electrification remain central components of the energy transition, another approach is becoming increasingly important: carbon management - the targeted handling of carbon dioxide along the entire value chain.
This panel will discuss the role that carbon management can actually play in a sustainable European energy and climate strategy – and the political, technical, and social conditions that need to be created for this to happen.
How far have the technologies developed today? What infrastructure is needed for transport and storage? What legal and economic conditions promote or inhibit implementation? And what role does Europe play in the international context of carbon management?
These and further questions will be discussed by representatives from industry, grid operators, energy infrastructure, and environmental protection.

The Carbon Management Alliance (CMA) was founded in Berlin in November 2024 by companies from the cement, lime, energy, transport and waste industries. The alliance aims to establish the capture, storage and further processing of COâ‚‚ (carbon management technologies) across all industries in Germany and to actively help shape the necessary framework conditions.
