The Decarbonisation of European Industry Through CCS: Solutions & Challenges

The decarbonisation of the energy-intensive industry will be a central key to achieving climate neutrality. Large-scale electrification is one of the ways to sustainably reduce greenhouse gases. However, not all sectors can be fully electrified and unavoidable emissions from industrial processes will remain.

One way of reducing unavoidable emissions is the CCS (Carbon Capture and Storage) process, which has received increased attention in Europe in recent months. According to the ‘Trajectory Exploration Climate Neutral Netherlands 2050’ report by PBL, for example, CO2 storage will be essential for the Netherlands to achieve climate neutrality (even beyond the planned 2050 target).

This webinar will use two European examples from Norway and the Netherlands to provide a deeper insight into how industry can use carbon dioxide storage technology to reduce emissions in the long term. In this context, decision-makers from the Norwegian project Northern Lights JV and the Dutch project Porthos will discuss existing approaches on how CCS can be used to sustainably decarbonize industry.
