What shape will the future European gas market take? While in recent years the focus has been on the question of security of supply, the focus is now on the question of how much natural gas will be prospectively consumed and for how long. The EU Commission's Clean Industrial Deal gives natural gas a key role by proposing joint gas procurement for greater security of supply. However, the resulting potential increase in demand is an obstacle to a climate-neutral future.   

On the second E-world Kick-off day, a panel of international representatives from the energy industry will focus on the future European demand for (natural) gas. It will be influenced by the following aspects, among others:  



• Against the backdrop of a possible increase in demand for (natural) gas, for example by turning to blue hydrogen, are joint EU supply contracts a first step towards an import strategy?  

• What impact will the import of US LNG under the Trump administration have?   

• What will happen to gas-fired power plants if the new German government's plans to promote carbon capture and storage (CCS) are put into practice?   

• Last but not least, a forecast of the overall demand for natural gas is largely dependent on the future of other markets, such as the hydrogen market and heating, influenced in particular by the implementation of EU directives and negotiations on the German Building Energy Act (GEG). How will the developments in both markets affect the demand for gas?
