Energy Transition From the Bottom Up – Using the Energy Transition Calculator for Regional Transformation
Services
Politics & Regulation
Grids
The energy transition is a complex machine with thousands of municipal cogs that must mesh together. This is too often overlooked, and political planning is dominated by a top-down perspective, which makes it difficult to distribute the expansion of renewable energies evenly.
With its energy transition calculator, the BEE has created a new tool that makes the requirements and status of the energy transition visible and understandable even at the smallest district level. Over 200 supporters from across the energy industry are already behind this project.
The broad support shows the diverse benefits that this local data has for the various players in the energy transition. It enables grid operators to expand their networks more effectively, project developers to locate sites for new plants more easily, and politicians to create better framework conditions for the respective regions.
In our discussion panel, we want to highlight these different perspectives on the bottom-up energy transition and show why this must be incorporated into future energy policy legislation.

The German Renewable Energy Federation (BEE) was founded in 1991 to represent the interests of the renewable energy sector in Germany.
One of BEE's statutory tasks is to improve the framework conditions for renewable energies and to ensure that they take precedence over other energy sources. As an umbrella organization, BEE coordinates the individual activities of the associations vis-à-vis politicians and the public and promotes cooperation and the exchange of experience in the field of renewable energies.
The member associations of BEE bring together a total of over 30,000 individual members and companies. The BEE Board is correspondingly diverse. It brings together experts from all nationally active associations in the sector.
