Design, Simulation and Optimization of Complex Energy SystemsHow can resilience be systematically built into complex energy systems? The more interconnected, decentralized and digital energy infrastructure becomes, the less resilience can be treated as a secondary issue โ it needs to be planned, assessed and developed from the very beginning.This webinar demonstrates how integrated system design, simulation and optimization help keep energy systems operational even under exceptional conditions. The focus is on the transition from a general understanding to a structured, data-driven approach that identifies vulnerabilities and enables the comparison of different system configurations.A key element is scenario-based analysis: supply bottlenecks, infrastructure failures, extreme weather, cyber incidents, or sudden shifts in demand can be modeled before they occur. This allows critical dependencies and bottlenecks to be identified early on. The integrated view of generation, storage, grids, mobility, backup systems, and flexible loads also makes the trade-offs between costs, efficiency, redundancy, and security of supply tangible.Particular attention is also given to the path from analysis to implementation: How can resilience objectives be made measurable, how can measures be prioritized, and how does this translate into a step-by-step path toward a more resilient target architecture? Finally, international examples demonstrate which approaches have proven effective in practice.
