Between Market and Power Politics: Who Will Determine Europe’s Gas Future

Since 2022, the European natural gas market has been undergoing a historic transformation. Russia’s war of aggression and the shift to LNG have radically altered supply routes and prices. Recent geopolitical crises, such as the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, are causing further uncertainty. How are policymakers responding, and what does the future hold for energy supply?

These pressing questions are the focus of the second kick-off day. Together, during an initial fireside chat and a subsequent panel discussion, we will examine how demand uncertainties are affecting importers, whether a return to Russian gas is conceivable, and how secure Europe’s gas supply will remain this coming winter.

Ludwig Möhring is a recognized voice in Germany’s gas sector, with leadership roles spanning Shell Gas & Power and WINGAS, among others. His career has focused, i.a., on international gas supply and sales.

Since 2018, as CEO of the Federal Association for Natural Gas, Crude Oil and Geoenergy (BVEG), he has combined his deep market expertise with strategic and political insights on the development of European gas markets in the midst of the energy transition and major gas market disruptions.
